Border Landmark nº1 PT/ES

Where Portugal starts
Cevide belongs to the district of Viana do Castelo and sub-region of Minho-Lima, in Cristoval, Melgaço, next to the river Minho. This village is, truly, the place where the first border mark is located, that is, the point where Portugal begins.

In addition to being the most northern point of Portugal, Cevide has peculiar characteristics. The locals say that you can hear the roosters crow from 3 provinces: Minho, Pontevedra, and Ourense, in the midst of stunning landscapes, which combine and intersperse according to the seasons.

Currently, Cevide has only six inhabitants and a peaceful, authentic, and unaltered environment. The natural attractions of the place, including the wild meandering of the Trancoso River, between the bare rocks, or a small, untouched beach with translucent water, offered by nature’s will, are reason enough for a visit.

Location
Located in Cevide, access to the border landmark is via a small walkway of about 1km. Those who drive to the place, should park the car in the square and then proceed on foot.
