The Old Bridge of Castro Laboreiro, also known as Moors Bridge, is a medieval-style bridge over the Laboreiro river, on the perimeter of the Peneda-Gerês National Park, located a few meters from the center of Castro Laboreiro.
Despite the appearance of medieval style, the date of construction of Ponte Velha is not clear, estimating that it took place between the 15th and 16th centuries, fitting into the Modern Age. Built-in granite masonry, with medieval architectural tradition from the Romanesque period, the Old Bridge is characterized by its narrow deck and slightly pronounced easel, built over a single perfect arch. With paved pavement, it does not have side guards, rising just over five meters. It is still about six meters long.
The Old Bridge served as a passage over the Laboreiro waterfall to the mills that were built in the vicinity: Moinhos de Castro Laboreiro. They are granite constructions, with a rectangular plan, with a gabled roof. They have two floors, one at the entrance level and the other at the water outlet level. They have a door that rests on the ground at a higher level that gives access to a single compartment, with a wooden floor, where the hopper and millstones are located.
The mills of Castro Laboreiro can be seen from Ponte Velha or by taking a short pedestrian route, starting next to the Museum Nucleus of Castro Laboreiro.
