Melgaço Thermal Baths

Until 1884, when the wife of a doctor from Vila Nova Cerveira – who suffered from a stomach ailment – was cured with the Peso thermal waters, these remained unknown to the general public.

Over the years that followed this episode, its popularity grew and there are even reports that in the 20s of the last century, the then President of the Republic wanted to visit Melgaço in search of healing waters.

Rheumatism, diseases of the digestive and respiratory system, as well as diabetes, are some of the pathologies for which these waters have therapeutic power.

Nowadays, the magnificent Thermal Park, surrounded by beautiful gardens and vegetation, is made up of two springs (the Main Fountain and the New Fountain), the Buvete (a majestic building designed by Engineer Luís Couto dos Santos), the Balneário, the Bottling Workshop, and the old Hotel do Peso, which is in the process of being refurbished.
