In an ongoing effort to strengthen this position, a meeting was recently held with Melgaço’s Green Team, where new contributions to the Destination’s Sustainability Action Plan were discussed. During this meeting, an assessment was also made of the actions already implemented, with special emphasis on those carried out in 2023.

The Vice-President, José Adriano Esteves Lima, emphasized the municipality’s commitment to renewing Melgaço’s certification as a sustainable tourist destination. After achieving EarthCheck’s silver seal in April 2023, reaching level 2, Melgaço now aims to reach level 3 of the silver grade, with a view to achieving the coveted GOLD certification level by 2026.

In this context, a face-to-face audit of the municipality is scheduled for early March, as part of the ongoing efforts to achieve this goal.
