Events

Melgaço’s annual festivities are marked by two major events – the Alvarinho and Smoked Wine Festival and Melgaço em Festa, which attract thousands of locals and visitors to the county seat.

The first, which is a gastronomic showcase, aims to promote Alvarinho wine, but also smoked meats and other local products, in a traditional yet innovative event.

The second takes place during the month of August, as part of the Filmes do Homem – Melgaço Documentary Festival, and celebrates the culture of and in the municipality, while at the same time celebrating the return to the land of many emigrants.

The county’s calendar of festivities also includes other events, such as the Sparkling Wine Festival, the São João Marches or the flower carpets that decorate the streets during the Corpus Christi festival, as well as the various celebrations that take place in the county’s different parishes.
