Recovery and Protection of Habitats with Unfavorable Conservation Status

Melgaço carried out actions that allowed the recovery and protection of species and habitats with an unfavorable state of conservation, namely on the banks of the Minho, Laboreiro, Mouro, Trancoso rivers and their respective tributaries, as well as a forest polygon that was decayed due to the large forest fires in 2006 and in 2017, located in S. Paio.

The area of habitats where the best conservation status was achieved was 83.50 hectares (36.1 hectares in riparian galleries and 47.4 hectares in forest) and the percentage of species, habitats and ecosystems that benefited from recovery actions was 2.33%.

The actions took place within the scope of the project “Recovery and Protection of Habitats with an Unfavorable State of Conservation in the Municipality of Melgaço”, as part of the application to POSEUR – Operational Program for Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources.

Also within the scope of this project, a study was carried out for “Identification and assessment of the conservation status of habitats”, with the aim of sustaining future actions of the same type.
